Build Log (BLOG)
* please bare with me while I complete broken links and add pics/vids, etc. Taa. James --------
08/04/05 - Okay, so the brakes didnt arrive this week, I contacted the supplier, it seems they didnt have the calipers I wanted in stock, damn. They organise the set I require and have now shipped them. Lets hope for next week. This means no big brakes for racing this Sunday. Bugger. I think I'll re-bleed the fronts tommorow. And maybe scuff up the EBC pads i have in there at the mo. If I get time this weekend I'll look at wiring in the reluctor interface to the Autronic (for wheel speed). This will enable me to utilise a whole heap of features on the SM2.. traction control, launch control, boost based on wheelspeed, etc. I've been slack and other things have been consuming my attention, I guess this season of racing has re-sparked an interest in the pulsar. Back to the Mens Room
21/03/05 - Ordered a set of big brakes, 300mm 2-piece rotors, wilwood 4-pot calipers, pads, braided lines, etc. Should be here next week. fingers crossed.
24/02/05 - Been a while since an update so here goes. Car went well at MC motorsport, unfortunately for me, it rained. Try driving a car like this "enthusiastically" in the rain. pffft. Better luck with weather next time!
11/1/05 - Prepping the car all this week for motorvation! also have a race team entered starting feburary for MC Motorsport (autokhana). FUN
6/12/04 - Just got back from a holiday in Bali, boy was it good! Also proposed to Mel, we're now engaged! Have had the PULSSSAR out every day since we've been back, so nice to drive it around again. Also thinking I might put the factory stereo back in it, to fill the void, and keep originality.
4/11/04 - Sean from Enzed came out yesterday evening to fix my busted power steering line. we put a slightly longer line in and took out the factory restrictor. apparently the rack and pump end's of the line have restrictors in the ports already. test drove it, seemed fine. Gonna get it out this weekend for a bit of fun... maybe tonight even.
26/10/04 - A month since an update, so here's one. Prepped the car for 4,6,rotary drag wars last weekend. Did wheel alignment, etc on sat morning, whilst the car was on the hoist I noticed a power steering leak. didnt think much of it and drove it home. It appears I have a split power steering line. Happens to be the one ENZED made for me. Will get them onto it as soon as I can. Also now have Redline 75-90 gearbox fluid in. Seems good. Have done some more tuning on the dyno, cold start is now very good as is street driving, very smooth. Happy. Need to do some exhaust changes so we can wind her up a bit.
28/9/04 - Finished getting the race gearbox into the car today. drove it. it's bloody awesome. I just need to bed the LSD in with some figure 8 driving and I'm set. Will be dropping the fluid out after about 200kms. so far so good! A couple of race meets coming up in October too!
21/9/04 - Today I picked up my gearbox from HyperDrive. PAR shipped i back over and it finally arrived! plan to fit it to the car on sunday. Also have another TPS to try solve a possible TPS problem, more soon
23/8/04 - Well the gearbox assembly went well, I'm just waiting for the boys to ship it back to me. On the weekend just passed we had the Pulsar group HOT4's photoshoot, it went very well with 32 cars attending the shoot. It was tops! as soon as the gearbox arrives I'll be fitting it up and getting the car ready for some racing
14/8/04 - Im in sydney at the moment, over hear with my gearbox bits and heading to PAR Engineering to get the new box underway. Went to a sydney pulsar cruise last night, was top fun.. more soon.
5/7/04 - Front control arm bushes installed, has reduced the wheelhop slightly, but it's still there. A slightly better feel perhaps.
28/6/04 - Lumpy gave me some front lower control arm bushes to try help get rid of some wheel hop. Will be removing control arm's this week and fitting up the new bushes at the workshop on saturday
14/6/04 - Yesterday i bought my new daily driver, a Nissan Micra! it's red (of course) and will be my new zippy run around. I shall call him, MINI ME! hahaha. stay tuned for a micra section on the web page
11/6/04 - Gee updates are becoming few and far between. Here goes. Car is running nicely. Have been doing some boost tuning lately and I've been playing with around 16 or 17psi. I'm soon to start the wiring of the reluctor interface to setup the wheel speed sensors and then play with traction control, launch control and other log/diag stuff. Should be neat. I'm currently looking for another daily driver. the bunky has had enough, it really needs to go I think. See what happens.
12/5/04 - Not much to update on. I've had the car out a couple of times since I raced it last. I put the new dipstick in which finally arrived from Japan, no more oil leakage action. Over the next few weeks I'm going to do some exhaust work, look at the dump, and the cat. Also need to do more tuning at some stage and think about fixing the boosting problem I'm having. Did some more work on the gearbox on Mon night, hope to finish up on the housings this week, then ship the box off to PAR next week. Who knows.. I need this box in the car before I start to squeeze in the boost.
28/4/04 - Took the car back down the drags, this time on 14" r-comps. ran a 13.04 with a higher mph than last time I came down. I think it's time to sort out out the boost and squeeze in over 1bar. 60ft times are already nasty, they will only get worse no doubt... I'm running out of rev's in fourth gear before the end of the strip. need to get a move on with the race gearbox.
10/4/04 - Drag combat. Spent all yesterday prepping the car for drag combat. The event went well. Took 'look what he's done to the engine bay' trophy. Ran some consistant 13.3's on just 0.6 bar of boost, well happy with that and hope to return to the strip eventually for some 11sec passes. There was some issues with the FWD racing class during the evening which saw the class change from HEADS UP to DYO (dial your own). I wasnt happy with the decision (made due to complaints from slower qualifiers) but i wont go into it here. It's over. I definately enjoyed the event, it was good to see everyone out doing some passes and enjoying the day. the Cabin boys did a pretty damn good job and the motorplex staff responded well to the turn out and event co-ordination. I'm sure the motorplex would be more than happy to see this event next year. Thanks to those that came down to support me / say hi!
27/3/04 - Increased rev limit from 5k to 6.2k rpm, definately getting a feel for it now. Hope to tune it more this saturday
22/3/04 - Autosalon went well. Took "Look what he's done to the engine bay". Happy with that! Hope to have the car tuned for Drag Combat.
16/3/04 - Well I've put about 500km's on the car. Was going to enter it in sport compact (show/race) event on saturday just passed, but didnt, cruised down for a look anyway. Had the wheel alignment done on Saturday also. It was all over the shop. Rear has just a small amount of neg camber (about all I can get because of the coilovers and clearance). Some neg is better than no neg.
Sunday drove the car upto a mates, picked him up and we drove some of the coast, checked out the scenery and put some km's on the car. I've discovered that the passenger side driveshaft is indeed too long, and on tight turning it grinds the CV's badly on that side. I'll have to take it easy for now until my other gearbox goes in the car. I'm spending this week prepping the car for autosalon which is this weekend. Car doesnt need too much work which is good.
8/3/04 - I didnt get to drive the car on sunday as planned, a) it rained and I dont really want to be driving it in the rain much, and b) the battery was flat, doh. Swapped the battery temporarily today after work, started it up, and went for a bit of a cruise, fwy, etc.. the car has about 100km's on it. 900 more. DOH haha.
6/3/04 - Well today I drove the car back from the workshop, home. After testing oil pressure, fluids, checking for leaks, and some futher "putting back together". She goes. Sounds like an animal. I get out of the car and my ears are ringing. Anyway, it's strange being back in it, feels very very different, in every way. The lightened flywheel is crazy... gear changes are so different. Go for the change and the rev's just stay right up, hardly drop at all, it's a bit weird. I'll get used to it. The alignment is out the window, badly, I'll sort it out this week hopefully. It's had no tuning, at all, and is running a map from an S15 silvia that already had a tune for the large injectors and cams. Rough, but enough to run the car in, ready for the full-tune.
It's so good to it back, I missed it so much, and it's just awesome being able to drive it around again, even if it's the running-in period and there's no fun allowed at this stage! I need to put 1000km's on it. It's gonna take ages haha I can see me driving it every day after work
First pic, turning into my home street
24/2/04 - Updates are becoming few and far between. Car is pretty much ready to turn over. I'm just waiting on some hi tension leads which will be here in the next day or so. Big thanks to Pulsar Parts for supplying the leads. Seriously if you ever need parts for your Pulsar. Get onto Pulsar Parts in Adelaide. I was looking at the autosalon entry form today. If I want to display, with power, it's going to cost me $140 to enter! I'm having second thoughts about entering the show.
31/1/04 - Damn it's been a while since an update. So here goes.
The car is at a new workshop that has recently started. Lumpy will soon be wiring the Autronic gear into the car. I've been up there every weekend and whenever I'm not at work getting things bolted up and back to normal. Everything is together, just doing stuff like getting the wastegate actuator bolted up properly, doing oil/water lines for the turbo and sorting out what EARLS fittings are required for the new fuel system. Today I bolted all the turbo gear onto the block, all that stuff is ready. Chassis wiring has been completely re-done from the firewall forward (Again) and is pretty much complete.
I predict the car will be driving in a month or less. Lets see what happens.
27/12/03 - Back from holidays, swinging into the car again. Car is ready to goto Lumpy's workshop, and should be leaving today (if the truck guy comes).
6/12/03 - Uploaded some pics of the N15, and it's first few minor mods, here and here. Hope to have the N15 pages up soon, when I get some time.
3/12/03 - The N15 SSS should be in the garage tonight. Mel should be picking it up today. Also: wanted a T25G turbo off a u12/u13 sr20, or a gti-r turbo and a 1G-GTE supra intercooler. email me
2/12/03 - Installed new quick shifter
30/11/03 - Motor went in the car today. Feel the pain...
29/11/03 - Today is my birthday! yay. Got some tools and some other goodies :) I've also uploaded some recent pictures that I took a couple of days ago. Pushed the car outside for a wash, also pics of PAR gearset, fidanza flywheel, etc. Pics are in the gallery
24/11/03 - Well I picked up the Nismo LSD from the post office on Friday. It comes in the most way cool packaging, the black NISMO box is awesome haha. I think I spent more time admiring the box than the LSD itself! Saturday I worked the sport compact show at the motorplex, wasnt bad, made me wish I was racing, doh. Sunday I spent the whole day working on the car. I removed all the idle/air equipment from the plenum chamber and blanked it off with some ally I cut up. I also drilled and tapped the plenum for the air temp sender that the Autronic requires. What else... oh yeah.. as the Border Racing fuel rail is actually for a PS13, I had to slightly modify the mounting points to suit my intake runners. All worked out well, it sure is a fat rail. Intake runners and plenum are now bolted to the motor, just about everything is done. I just need to fit up the Fidanza flywheel, the clutch gear, do a few more water hoses on the motor, make a throttle body gasket, then she's ready to drop in the car. I should have the motor in the car mid this week if things go to plan. Having the motor in the car over the weekend just wasnt going to happen, still little things that need doing, including the fitting of the front calipers, and a total brake system bleed. I might actually put up some pictures tonight if I can draw myself away from the garage for a second hehe. (not easy when there's a beer fridge, cranking tunes, and a very comfy Kinchrome creeper bed, hehe)
23/11/03 - NEWSFLASH! There may be yet another SSS Pulsar gracing these pages very soon! Just this weekend I went looking with my lovely girlfriend Mel for a new car for her. Looks like we'll be picking up a nice series II N15 Pulsar SSS and it's stock as a rock. (for now, GRIN) Stay tuned as I change the site to accomodate the latest addition to the garage!
17/11/03 - Back from Sydney. Picked up the PAR straight-cut gearset while I was there, save on shipping. Looks nice, beefy. I'll be prepping the 2nd gearbox soon for the gearset and the NISMO LSD which is at customs in Melbourne. There's a package waiting for me at the airport too. I think it's the clutch and pressure plate, I sent it back to adelaide clutch for testing and re-building if required. It should be delivered to me tommorow.
Injectors arrived last Friday. The SARD 850's. I'll get them into the fuel rail when I've finished adapting it to the intake runners. I'm hoping to have the new flywheel on, clutch, gearbox, intake gear/plenum and fuel rail on the motor by this weekend. I hope to fit the engine to the car this Sunday. We'll see how things go. Can't skimp on things, it has to be right.... I'll be working instead of participating at this weekends Sport Compact show at Motorplex. Bummer, hope'd I'd make it, but it's a no. I guess I'll concentrate on Motorvation! :)
04/11/03 - Update specs page.
03/11/03 - Wow! so long since an update. Why? I've moved house, moved the car, been busy with organising parts, and also had some trouble accessing the site to do updates. Anyhow... things are progressing well, the motor is sealed up, and I'm currently putting the ancillaries on. Brake system is almost finalised and gearbox is back together. I've ordered a PAR Engineering straight-cut gearset, and a Nismo 1.5way mechanical LSD. New Blitz Blow off Valve has come in, Edelbrock adjustable FPR, and new Autometer Gauges. Currently plumbing in the air-temp sender into the plenum, and adapting the Border Racing fuel rail to the runners. Autronic has arrived and is waiting. Should be driving this thing in a month! More updates including picture updates shortly!
11/9/03 - News thats certainly worthy of a news page update... today Pulsar Parts in Adelaide came on board as an official sponsor of PULSSSAR. In the past I've had nothing but excellent support from these guys, with fast delivery, great prices, and excellent service. Great to have you guys on board!
13/8/03 - Turbo arrived this morning. Pictures here
1/8/03 - Looks like I've decided on a turbo to buy. Will be in my hands in a week. also going for a swain/HP temp coating on the turbine housing.
8/7/03 - Updated Pictures gallery with gearbox guts pictures and some polished parts pics. fun fun fun. I'm not sure how much longer I can do this for. It's seriously killing me. I've fallen into the non-stop phase that I was in last year with the engine bay, if I'm not at work in my day job I'm working on the car. I'm starting to get a bit sick too, feel like shite. I'm glad I'm nearing the completion of the polishing work. I cant wait to get onto the bay re-assembly
7/7/03 - Have been working on shite loads of polishing lately, its kind of tiring and it sometimes (all the time) makes you think.. why bother. haha. Luckily I'm almost finished. One more item to prep then it's everything onto the buff wheel. Get to make some serious mess, woohoo.
Updated the "specifications" page with the current status of the car. "?" means undecided as yet. From the spec's you can see I've not mucked around in the motor, it kinda also explains the time its taking me to do all this crap, expense being the main issue.
My motor mounts are due back soon. These babies are so solid, it's going to be like being in a ride at the royal show. nasty as. I'm starting to get pretty depressed about the whole thing. There's so much racing coming up in this half of the year, I'm gonna miss heaps of it. I'm itching for it, heh. not too long now.. more soon..
4/7/03 - Ordered a new set of wheels. Buddy Club P1 Racing... phat. Also decided on the cams and cam gears today.
17/6/03 - Looks like the car is ready to truck out of the paint shop, cool. Should be ready to truck out tonight. I'll start re-assembling the car this week.
14/6/03 - Stopped in to see the lads about my motor, etc. Its being machined and the head is being reconditioned, etc. Also took a look at my bag of goodies, new chain, bearings, bushes, etc. Things are progressing well.
11/6/03 - Went to check out progress on the panel and paint in the engine bay at the panel shop coupla days ago. Its bloody finished! I was shocked. It looks amazing. The car was in the booth and it was dark so it was hard to see, I took some photo's anyway. I went back yesterday to get some better photo's of it out of the booth, very nice. I'm very impressed. Final hole count was about 187. She's beautiful now hehe... pictures are in the gallery
4/6/03 - Welding complete, currently undergoing grinding back welds and smoothing/filling. Coming along nicely, pictures soon..
30/4/03 - Got some snaps of current progress of the car... going well, welding is just about finished! pics here
13/4/03 - Started to polish the plenum chamber, aaayyyyyiiiaaah!
12/4/03 - Moved car to panel/paint shop for the engine bay welding, smoothing and painting, this is getting hardcore now...
1/4/03 - Car features in Nissan Performance Magazine (USA) (April, front cover). NPM Link
31/3/03 - Update, engine build comencing soon (in a fortnight or so).
20/3/03 - The Vipers are sold.
17/3/03 - My 17" Viper A2 integral alloy wheels are for sale. Inc new 205/40/17 tyres, chrome valves and caps, and a $100 set of lock nuts. There's pics all around this site of em. $1500. (the new tyres alone cost $900)
7/3/03 - Its been a while since an update.. The new site is going okay, turbo.pulsar.org.au is fairly live, and is nice and fast! Today I moved across the old news (your reading it now) layout to the new site..
The car.. well, ive been working on Mr Rucci's stuff of late, so I havent had much time to do my own. I have however almost entirely stripped the front end of the car ready for completely new wiring, welding, painting, etc. Its going to be HUGE hehe...
I know this whole thing is taking time, but hey, cash dont grow on trees (that i know of) and big engine builds cost biiiig dollars. It's like $15k just for a small build, try 20k to 25k for a half decent build. damn. Anyway, the block will be machined soon, with sr20 torque plate of course. Internals for the engine are ready to go. Arias 87mm forged pistons and Eagle forged connecting rods. Other plans are a GT30 turbo base, cams, headwork, new valves, springs, lash killer kit, stand alone ecu, the LSD gearbox, water/methanol injection, and so on. Pics of progress still avail from main page.
25/1/03 - Bought a new bunky! hehehe click here to see
Also removed engine, getting ready for strip down. Removal pics here
23/1/03 - Motorvation went well, had a blast as always and got some pretty cool pictures, etc. Removing engine this weekend. Also building new web page and moving it off this server.
14/1/03 - In the middle of prepping car for motorvation this week, also dumped car on saturday after finalising the coilover installation pic here. Also, engine plans changed again, after motorvation, going to start rebuild as originally planned.. just yank engine, then start prepping for block work, and organising bad-boy parts... more soon!
2/12/02 - Looks like I might be back on the road really soon. I'm thinking remove the engine, plonk in another one whilst I'm rebuilding the current one up to "killa" spec. I figure, hey, why have hte car sit around whilst i rebuild the engine when I could be driving it around and still rebuilding the engine! what an idea! We might make Motorvation 03' yet!!
26/11/02 - Latest Pictures of Engine bay here, and here
26/11/02 - Well its been a while since an update, probably because nothing much is happening. Car is still off the road, been conserving the dollars for more mods, etc. Recently purchased new "hotbits" coilovers. Have fitted the fronts, just need a rattle gun to fit the rears. picture here Soon to start removing engine for rebuild, etc.
23/10/02 - Western Salon wasnt bad, worked on the car full time for the week before, results were excellent, PULSSSAR pulled the "Best Show, Polished/painted Engine Bay" Trophy! Stay tuned for more. Engine rebuild will be underway soon!
2/10/02 - the datto ute was crap. Still looking for a bunky! On another note, Ive started to prep the pulsar for the show which is on 19/20th oct!
24/9/02 - Decided that seemings car will not be driving probably at all this year, I gotta get a bunky. I'm thinking something to run parts around in, and so on. Looking at a Datsun 1200 ute tommorow night. If its any good I'll buy it. who knows, maybe when PULSSSAR is running again, the ute will turn into project #2!
23/9/02 - Appears that piston #4 is f*cked, not firing, spitting oil into exhaust, etc, hole or crack or something, will suss it soon, car is off the road until car show, will show it, then remove engine, rebuild from bottom up forgies, rods, headwork, cams, the lot, its power time. *sigh* setbacks!
20/9/02 - Got turbo back the other day, all cleaned up and ready to "roll" hehe, funny, roll. heh. anyway, will be putting it back on the car tonight.. also got an engine mount back, solid polyurethane! Should be running again soon
10/9/02 - Urgh, got car all back together, and turned her over only to find oil coming out of the turbo into the exhaust. Appears the turbo seals/bearings are gone! Dropped off to be repaired, also doing the solid engine mounts bone shaking! More soon!
6/9/02 - yet another month before an update! shit! so much going on, its worth waiting for. Car is still on stands, I'm almost done, a few wiring issues that I'm just ironing out at the moment, then its set base idle, and away I go again. Hope to have her all go for next weekend (14th) so I can race in MAX ACTION! more soon
6/08/02 - Been a while since an update. Car is majorly off the road undergoing some major changes, mainly under the bonnet, its crazy! More to come.

22/07/02 - Purchased DBA Slotted rotors, yummy
21/07/02 - Degreased and cleaned AD22VF calipers. They're bigger than I thought. Not bad at all... hrmmm what pads to purchase for this new brake setup. Obviously a compromise between street and track... Or maybe two sets of pads for both? heh
20/07/02 - Fitted strut brace, aaah solid once again. I chose the gti-r brace instead of the regular pulsar brace, because the gti-r brace runs up near the firewall, no obstruction of engine bay, etc. nicer. Also, picked up the AD22VF front calipers, big brakes are underway now! Ordering slotted rotors to suit on Monday
19/07/02 - Dropped into Nissan, ordered a whole set of wheel studs (all 16 of them,) and nuts to suit. Mine are getting worn out. Also requested postage of Nissan "attire" catalogue, i want me a jacket, and a few other things.. haha
18/07/02 - Picked up new Whiteline "GtiR" front strut tower brace. Latest pictures of engine bay here
16/07/02 - Polished more engine bay components, inc i/c pipes!
13/07/02 - Dyno'ed today. 191.9HP, up from 158HP at Motorvation. fmic working well.. need to do dump pipe and a few other bits, then up the boost.
10/07/02 - Polished Blow off Valve and pipe its attached too, looks amazing, other pipes are to follow. Also polished injector caps, and valve cover washers, getting there!
9/07/02 - Installed a bleed valve to raise boost, tested, spiked 15psi! Removed it, not very stable or reliable
7/07/02 - Lots has happened, got car back, cooler and other work is excellent.. boost is hitting almost 9psi! (was 6 or 7 before) engine bay starting to look real good. Had batt charging problems, found a bad terminal on alternator, fixed, also hid/re-routed some wiring/loom.. nice. Just need to remove everything for polishing, etc
1/07/02 - Dropped the car off this morning to have the front mount intercooler and alumn pipe work done. Also discussed alumn oil/air seperator with K&N filter and stainless braided lines and fittings! Car-less for a few days.. I hope only a few days! *sulk*

29/06/02 - Purchased SPARCO suede 'ring' 330mm flat bottom, very nice. Installed, pics soon.
25/06/02 - Sold MOMO Jet wheel. A shame, was as new, and I loved it, but it was an illegal size. (315mm) Soon to purchase 330mm SPARCO or 350mm MOMO Jet (identical) for replacement. Will look into the Sparco Racing wheels
24/06/02 - Purchased Odyssey 1000 dry-cell battery and alloy SPARCO racing pedals. Almost ready to boot mount the Odyssey, 17kgs! heavy battery, but should well support the audio install

2/06/02 - Polished cam cover installed
1/06/02 - New 17" street tyres fitted, balanced and running
27/05/02 - Purchased two new Davies Craig Thermo fans to replace stocker(s). Will install when front mount gets underway
22/05/02 - Purchased new 205/40/17 tyres for the Vipers, bout time the Falkens are way bald. This should keep the cops off my back anyway, oh yeah, and give a nicer ride, haha
21/05/02 - Acquired BRIDE super seat, lovely. Will look into custom brackets to suit the car, awesome!
20/05/02 - Defect/yellow sticker, removed, no problems
18/05/02 - Caught speeding, 68kph, what a joke, also given a work order (yellow sticker / defect) for bald tyres and various other things. Damn cops, nothing better to do, seriously!
15/05/02 - Purchased front sway bar D-link bushes last night. Might put em in today after work. Suspension is now 100% aftermarket (except front sway bar, because its design is ideal for my racing and aftermarket front sway bars on pulsars induce understeer!). So PULSSSAR's suspension is fully setup, just need the strut tower braces now!
12/05/02 - BRIDE Racing seat has arrived today, it's down on the docks, should have it in around a week now!
7/05/02 - First ever Perth Pulsar cruise was great, pics and write up are on www.pulsar.org.au

15/04/02 - Finally purchased MB Quart musicomp 3-way crossovers. Same ones I loaned before to test 3-way setup. They are awesome. Will do more work to finish my kickpanels (more glassing) and then do a trick crossover install, etc. Also looking at buying some JL audio amps!
13/04/02 - Purchased belt (crank/alt/cond) from Marlows. Bosch 6PK1035. $29 (nissan wanted $79.90) screw that. Belt fitted, all go.
